The Hearthkeeper's Wheel~Ostara!

Updated: Apr 28

In the busy, often hectic rhythm of modern life, it’s easy to forget the small, simple things.

Today is the Vernal Equinox—a quiet turning point where Winter loosens its grip and Spring begins to breathe life back into the world.

Long before us, my German ancestors would have marked this season with a feast for Eostre, using the last of the preserved winter stores and welcoming the promise of fresh growth to come. Today, many Pagans and Wiccans celebrate Ostara in much the same way—honoring balance, renewal, and the returning light.

And somewhere between simmer pots, labels, and building a business rooted in intention and tradition… I forgot.

But maybe that’s part of the lesson too.

Because even in the forgetting, there is community.

Kind neighbors. Local shops. Shared abundance.

And so our table will still be full tonight: Ham steaks, potatoes with garlic and onions, deviled eggs made with farm-fresh eggs from a neighbor, warm wheat bread, lemon bars from a local bakery, and glasses of strawberry, orange, and peach sweet tea.

Simple food. Honest food. Shared food.

After dinner, we’ll pause—just for a moment—to welcome the longer days, the soft return of green things, and the quiet hope that comes with new beginnings.

Because Spring doesn’t ask for perfection. Only that we notice when it arrives.

May your home be warmed by lengthening days, your table filled with simple abundance, and your hands busy with things that bring you peace.

May what has rested begin to grow, what has been heavy begin to lighten, and what has been waiting find its time.

As the earth awakens, may something within you awaken too.

Blessed Spring, from my hearth to yours 🌸
